During the daylight hours, remove the covers to let the warm sun rays add additional heat to your home. Use an RV Skirt: RV skirts can be attached along the bottom of your RV. When used properly, it will reduce internal heat loss, keeping the warmth inside your motor home. It will also protect it during strong winds. Marine Fire Prevention Tips SmartPlug October 23, 2018 9:00 am No Comments For Fire Safety Month, we thought it was important to share marine fire prevention tips. A fire on a boat can spread fast and when you’re out on the open water, you have limited options to remove yourself from danger. Follow these tips to help prevent a fire from occurring on your next boating excursion: Preparation& Prevention  Take a safety course including first aid and fire extinguisher use. Have multi-purpose ABC fire extinguishers both in and outside the cabin and ensure your passengers know where they are located. Make sure you have a communication source in case of emergency. Maintain your engine and electrical systems, always use a professional specializing in boat engines to perform maintenance and repairs. Make sure ventilation on your boat complies with Coast Guard standards. Ensure proper installation and inspection of batteries. Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are a must in the cabin. Safety When Docked Properly store flammable liquids in a safe location. Have safety equipment, including fire extinguisher, life vests, and first aid readily available in a dock box in case of emergency. Never leave portable heaters or appliances on when you are not on the boat. Make sure your marina is supplying you with the proper electrical voltage. If A Fire Occurs Stop the engine immediately. With fire being one of the leading causes of RV loss in the US, we thought it would be the perfect time to share fire safety tips to follow before you leave for your next RV adventure. Before You Leave Have 3 fire extinguishers available in your RV, make sure every passenger knows where they are and how to use them. Ensure your carbon monoxide, propane detector,and smoke detector are all functioning properly. Have an escape plan and make sure every passenger knows what it is. Ensure that the power cord for connecting your RV to a campground’s electricity supply is in good condition.If you need a new cord or want to take the extra step to be secure, SmartPlug minimizes fire danger by reducing heat with a solid sleeve connection and 20x more electrical contact. Maintain your brakes, engine fluids,and electrical systems to ensure they have not malfunctioned. Shut off the propane at the tank and turn off all propane-powered appliances while driving.   Safety When Parked/Camping Never leave appliances, grills,or camp fire unattended. Turn off exhaust fans when you leave the RV. Keep all combustibles away from cook surfaces. Keep fire sources away from the vehicle. Do not overload the electrical outlets. Always know your exact location in case of an emergency. If you will not have cell service, have a backup plan. In Case of Fire Get everyone out and away from the RV If you can, extinguish the fire. If the fire is too large, do not put yourself in danger. Never re-enter a burning RV. Call for help. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) estimates that 20,000 RV fires occur each year. Check out what he had to say on his blog “Casa Rodante –Our House on Wheels.” “Our shore power connector is a 50amp twist-type connector. The 50amp cord is heavy and unwieldy, especially in cold weather. I also have a 30amp cord that uses a specific twist-type connector that goes from 50amp on the trailer to 30amp on the cord connector. This twist-type setup is difficult for Roxie to use and getting harder for me. I have also heard of bad connection issues with twist-type. Time to look for another. I have seen the SmartPlug series of plugs and adapters for a while. Having some potential problems with our connectors made it seem more plausible to upgrade. A friend of mine, Bruce, recently upgraded also and I tend to trust him about electrical issues as he was a power lineman. Time to upgrade. I purchased a 50amp combo kit in Stainless Steel. I also purchased an additional 50amp connector to upgrade a second power cord, but there was a twist on this one. Everything appears to be working and the project was very easy. All in all, I am glad I have done this now.
