DIAGNOSTIC CHECK

01 CHECK: NO POWER

CHECK IN ORDER

If the connection is not receiving power, start with the simplest parts of the circuit before moving deeper into the installation.

01
VERIFY

CHECK THE POWER SOURCE.

Confirm that the source supplying the connection is switched on and providing power.

CHECK
02
INSPECT

CHECK THE CONNECTION.

Look for a loose connection, damaged component, or anything that may prevent normal operation.

LOOK
03
VERIFY

CHECK FOR AN INTERRUPTION.

Verify that the circuit has not been interrupted by a breaker, disconnect, or other protective device.

TEST
04
NEXT STEP

INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE BEFORE REPLACING PARTS.

Once the source and connection have been checked, use the appropriate product information to continue.

NEXT
TROUBLESHOOTING PRINCIPLE CHECK THE SIMPLE THINGS FIRST.
DIAGNOSTIC CHECK

02 CHECK: CONNECTION GETS HOT

CHECK IN ORDER

An unusually warm connection should not be ignored. Stop and investigate the condition before returning the connection to normal service.

01
STOP

DISCONTINUE USE IF THE CONNECTION IS ABNORMALLY HOT.

Allow the connection to cool before inspecting the components.

STOP
02
INSPECT

LOOK FOR DISCOLORATION OR DAMAGE.

Inspect the connection for visible signs of heat, wear, deformation, or damaged components.

LOOK
03
CHECK

VERIFY THE CONNECTION IS PROPERLY SEATED.

Make sure the connection is assembled and seated correctly before continuing.

CHECK
04
NEXT STEP

IDENTIFY THE CAUSE BEFORE RETURNING TO SERVICE.

Do not simply replace a component without determining what caused the connection to overheat.

NEXT
TROUBLESHOOTING PRINCIPLE STOP FIRST. INVESTIGATE SECOND.
DIAGNOSTIC CHECK

03 CHECK: PLUG WON'T SEAT

CHECK IN ORDER

If the plug does not seem to seat correctly, stop forcing the connection and inspect the components and alignment.

01
STOP

DO NOT FORCE THE CONNECTION.

Stop if the plug does not move into position normally.

STOP
02
INSPECT

CHECK FOR OBSTRUCTIONS OR DAMAGE.

Look for debris, damaged surfaces, deformation, or other visible problems.

LOOK
03
ALIGN

CONFIRM THE COMPONENTS ARE ALIGNED.

Check that the plug and inlet are correctly positioned before attempting the connection again.

CHECK
04
NEXT STEP

SERVICE OR REPLACE ONLY AFTER FINDING THE CAUSE.

Use the appropriate product information if the connection still cannot be seated correctly.

NEXT
TROUBLESHOOTING PRINCIPLE NEVER FORCE A CONNECTION.
DIAGNOSTIC CHECK

04 CHECK: POWER CUTS IN & OUT

CHECK IN ORDER

An intermittent connection can be caused by a loose, damaged, or unstable connection. Work through the basics before replacing components.

01
OBSERVE

IDENTIFY WHEN THE INTERRUPTION HAPPENS.

Note whether the power loss happens during movement, vibration, load, or normal operation.

CHECK
02
INSPECT

CHECK FOR LOOSE OR WORN CONNECTIONS.

Inspect the connection for looseness, wear, visible damage, or contamination.

LOOK
03
VERIFY

CHECK THE SOURCE AND CONNECTION POINTS.

Verify that the interruption is not occurring elsewhere in the circuit.

TEST
04
NEXT STEP

CORRECT THE IDENTIFIED CAUSE.

Address the source of the interruption before returning the connection to normal operation.

NEXT
TROUBLESHOOTING PRINCIPLE FIND THE PATTERN. THEN FIND THE CAUSE.
DIAGNOSTIC CHECK

05 CHECK: SOMETHING LOOKS WRONG

CHECK IN ORDER

Visible damage or unusual wear should be investigated before the connection is returned to normal service.

01
STOP

DO NOT IGNORE VISIBLE DAMAGE.

If a component appears damaged or compromised, stop and evaluate the condition before continuing.

STOP
02
INSPECT

IDENTIFY EXACTLY WHAT LOOKS DIFFERENT.

Look for cracks, discoloration, deformation, missing hardware, looseness, or other visible changes.

LOOK
03
COMPARE

COMPARE AGAINST THE CORRECT PRODUCT INFORMATION.

Use the applicable product documentation to determine whether the condition is expected or requires service.

CHECK
04
NEXT STEP

REPLACE OR SERVICE ONLY AFTER IDENTIFYING THE CAUSE.

Use the appropriate service information before replacing components or returning the connection to operation.

NEXT
TROUBLESHOOTING PRINCIPLE CHECK THE SIMPLE THINGS FIRST.
