It’s often assumed electrical shorts are the leading cause of shore power failures and fires. The reality is far less obvious: the greatest risk comes from overheating caused by poor electrical conductivity at the connection point. We honor SmartPlug founder Ken Smith, who passed away on March 16, 2026, and recognize his 40+ years in the marine industry that inspired a safer shore power solution.
